Catalog job fails with an error message : One or more pieces of media in the media family being cataloged has not been inventoried. No objects on these media may be cataloged.

Exact Error Message
One or more pieces of media in the media family being cataloged has not been inventoried. No objects on these media may be cataloged.

Details:
This error means the tape being accessed is part of a multi-tape set (media family), and at least one piece of media is not currently identified in the Backup Exec database.  There are three reasons why a tape may not exist in Backup Exec's database:

1. In Backup Exec for Windows Servers, the options can also be accessed by Tools | Options | Catalog
Place a check mark on "Use Storage media-based Catalogs"

2. Close Backup Exec GUI and stop all Backup Exec services.

3. Rename Catalogs directory to Catalogs.old    (NOTE: This procedure will remove any existing restore selections from Backup Exec)

4. Start Backup Exec Services.

5. A new Catalogs folder is automatically created.
6. Inventory the drive(s) or slot(s) containing all the tapes in the family
7. Run a "Catalog" job on a tape.
NOTE: The catalog files in the catalogs.old folder can be copied back into the new catalogs folder, but do not overwrite any existing files in the new catalogs folder.
